Over two years ago my grandmother passed away. Her and I shared a very special relationship and I loved her very much. We were cleaning out her apartment and had numerous bags of her clothes. I couldn’t bare to give them away, they still smelt like her. I wanted to make something with them for her four daughters and four grandaughters to have as a memory…to see a bit of her everyday. Pinterest to the rescue! I took them home and cut them into 6 x 6 squares. I bought some pillow foam inserts to put inside (instead of stuffing them).
I laid my pieces out and laid the pillow insert in the middle on top of the pieces. This helped me gauge how many pieces I needed to sew together. I made sure I had enough room around the sides to sew it up. With a 1/2 inch seam, I stitched them together. I used my machine, this can be done by hand but it will take a lot longer. Follow the directions below on how to sew up your 2 pieces.
I also used this idea for another Christmas gift for my mother-in-law last year. She had given me a bunch of my husbands old baby clothes. My son had grown out of them and I didn’t want to get rid of them. I really believed that they should be with her…but what would she do with all his old baby clothes in a box? So I made her a scrap pillow. She loved it so much she cried. It was a total surprise and something she could look at everyday.
These are great gifts…for yourself or for someone else.
